Luxurious car maker Audi has revealed some of its products recently. And, now another member has gone topless over the weekend, jus two day ahead of its premier at Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new Audi A3 Cabriolet is larger by 200mm and 50kg lighter than the outgoing version and offers better fuel economy. The soft-top of the new A3 Cabriolet open or close electro-hydraulically in less than 18 seconds. The roof folds into a tray, hidden in the boot rather than being stored on top of the rear deck. The Cabriolet is the fourth and final member of Audi’s growing A3 model range, following the current three-door, five-door hatchback, the new three-box sedan and the S3 performance version of both.
The new Audi A3 Cabriolet will use the same engine as the hatch and sedan versions. The 2.0-litre TFSI turbo engine that develops maximum output of 300PS and a peak torque of 380Nm. The power is delivered to all four wheels via a Quattro AWD system and a six-speed manual gearbox or six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions. This hot open-topped A3 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The ride height will be lowered by 25mm to help in the corners.
Audi will offer two other powertrain options in Europe apart from the rest of the range; the two TFSI turbo petrol engines producing 140PS and 180PS of power with displacements of 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre, or a 150PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine.
The cabin can accommodate four occupants comfortably, and the rear seats fold flat to liberate load space if required. Safety features include; adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, Audi side assist, camera based traffic sign recognition and pre-sense braking system.
The front fascia of Audi A3 features single frame radiator grille, flanked by flat head lamps that can light the way using either halogen or xenon bulbs depending upon the version.
The new Cabriolet features elegant interiors, clean surfaces and uncompromising quality. Flagship versions feature Bang & Olufsen sound system and MMI navigation plus. The thin seven-inch monitor extends electrically and the user terminal has a rotary/push button control with a touch-sensitive trackpad. Underneath the car sits a partial aluminium MacPherson front, four link suspension system and the hatchback’s fuel-saving electromechanical steering system.
