Maruti to fit AMT gearbox in Alto K10 and Wagon R
Company officials confirmed that Wagon R and Alto comes up with the AMT technology, apart from the introduction of a CVT gearbox to the upcoming Ciaz. The AMT technology provides an ease for driver to drive the car in a fully automatic mode as well as partially automatic mode.
Maruti Suzuki has planned to bring an AMT variant of the Alto K10 and it is reported that some more models will be equipped by the same technology very soon. Company officials confirmed that Wagon R and Alto comes up with the AMT technology, apart from the introduction of a CVT gearbox to the upcoming Ciaz. The AMT technology provides an ease for driver to drive the car in a fully automatic mode as well as partially automatic mode.
Company reports says the celerio AMT variant is available on 6 month waiting period as company manufactures 5,000 units a month, because AMT gearbox comes from Magneti Marelli in Italy.
The components manufacturer in India has three facilities for the manufacturing powertrain components, one of which is inside the supplier’s park located within the area of Maruti’s Manesar plant. Though, the company does not involve in manufacturing of the entire AMT gearbox in India.
An AMT gearbox in the Maruti Alto can provide car a unique excellence against to its competitors like Chevrolet spark, Hyundai Eon and the upcoming Datsun Go. Tata Motors also reveals that they would bring the AMT technology in its upcoming compact sedan Tata Zest diesel variant.
