Local Engines getting popular now
Toyota would be commencing on the tests soon, for the manufacturing of the new engines, however the localization would be starting in the early part of the next year. The next generation, Toyota cars, Innova and Fortuner are expected to get locally produced Diesel engines. Toyota would be commencing on the tests soon, for the manufacturing of the new engines, however the localization would be starting in the early part of the next year. The engines would be produced at the new production facility in the area bordering Bengaluru, near to a place called Jigani as reported in Business Standards. We assume, the new plant would be into manufacturing the new GD series engines that has been revealed by the brand at the Vienna Motor Symposium, Austria.
Talking about this new plant, it would manage to craft approx. 100,000 units per annum and would stand out with an investment of a whooping Rs.800 Cr. At present, Toyota just makes the petrol dynamos here in Indian, while the diesel units are all imported in our country from Japan. But now, the brand has decided to equip the plant in order to craft the diesel engines, initially to look after the needs of Innova and Fortuner.
The GD series of Diesel engines would take place on the KD series running in the Toyota cars at present, featuring two variants in them. The 2.8L engine would house in the Fortuner, while the 2.4L dynamo will make Innova its home. Both the engines being turbocharged, intercooled, four cylinder units. As per the claims of the company, this new line up of engines, would be giving out better fuel economy with an enhanced Thermal Combustion, in order to improve the efficiency to add on. The transmission would also be replaced by a 6-speed manual as well as automatic gearing systems.
