CO2 Credits: The Ultimate Rebate?
Modern Concept cars are being laden with the CO2 emissions credits. The buying and selling of these credits have been going on between car makers for a long time and has not brought down the emission level as they were required to.
CO2 credits were passed by the international environment managers to keep a check on emissions of this harmful gas in the atmosphere and encourage the adoption of environmental friendly modes of commutation and transport. For those who have coming across this term for the first time, it is a system under which any country or car maker has been given with certain number of CO2 credits that he may use to manufacture vehicles. In case, he passes that credit limit, he will have to buy those credits from some other country or firm that has excess of those credits. The system had several loopholes due to which it could not bring required improvements.
There have been several ways adopted by several nations to encourage hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles like in Europe use of fuel more than specified invites extra tax, while in America the manufacturers have been given a time limit till 2025 to bring their car fuel efficacies till 54.5 miles per gallon. But as per the latest auto industry updates, experts feel that all burden of fuel economy and clean energy is being held by the auto manufacturers around the world. They feel that despite of CO2 credits buying and selling game being controlled by auto makers, they should be passed on to the consumers who are the actual end users of these cars.
This would be the most correct medium for encouraging consumers in real terms for buying hybrid cars. The MSRPs of the car need not be changed but the consumer should be given with the option what they want to do with these credits. They also feel that this would help in bringing down costs of Electric Vehicles to a considerable level. And would be a viable medium to bring down CO2 emissions.
