The back end obtains a freshly outlined sub-frame carrying brackets for saddle bags and a brushed up exhaust. Suspension duties are carried out by mono shock arrangement (first for an RE) for the back, and telescopic fore fork equipped with extended travel for undertaking rough roads.
Giving power to the Royal Enfield Himalayan is, supposedly, an all fresh and innovative solo cylinder, 410 cc, oil-cooled, four-stroke, overhead cam unit producing almost 29 bhp and torque of 32 Nm. The reports claim that Royal Enfield is still regulating the unit, and power figures could be somewhat changed upon its launch. The engine would be mated to a 6-speed unit.
The solo adventure-specific product currently adorning the Indian market is the Bajaj Pulsar AS twins in the 150-200 cc segments.
Upon its launch, the Royal Enfield Himalayan would make a new segment, as at the moment there are none of the 400cc adventure tourer motorcycles being out in the market.
